Order an Avis de Saltu — our take on the classic Jungle Bird — and let the rest of the day unfold from there. Maybe it turns into a dinner in our lush courtyard restaurant, where the food is built around what’s fresh from The Culinary Farm just outside Malmö. Together, we shape the menu by the season, keeping it thoughtful, flavorful and always worth gathering around. And if the evening calls for something play, grab a game from the reception and make sure to kick your friends in Tic Tac Toe.

Food to eat

Malmö is a smorgasbord of amazing places to eat, so you might actually need a couple of days to get through all the yummy-in-the-tummy spots.

1. MJ’S

Our food is inspired by the Mediterranean countries and we love to flirt with a variation of flavors. We cook with the seasons and a lot of local love (hello, sun-kissed flavors and bold little twists). Just outside Malmö, The Culinary Farm grows some of the produce we serve, so the menu follows what’s fresh right now. Seasonal, thoughtful, and close to home. Those colorful babes on your plate? Grown nearby. Check it out.

2. Ruths

With a tasteful interior and atmosphere, Ruths is a wonderful spot for lunch or dinner. Just around the corner!

3. Namu

At Namu you’ll get a taste of nordic and korean cuisine, meeting in the middle. What else do you really need?

4. La fonderie

It’s time for some high class Parisian food! Devour the french classics in a magnifique and élégante interior.

5. Scandwich

Craving a good ol’ open sandwich? This is you place! Right at Möllan this natural wine hub serves humongous sandwiches (and great fries).

Things to do

Malmö is made for strolling, especially during summer. Leave your four wheeled friend at home, MJ’S is only a couple of minutes away from the train station!

1. Boulebar Folkets Park

Go beat your friends in an epic game of pétanque in wonderful Folkets Park. French drinks and great music are guaranteed.

2. Ribersborgs Kallbadhus

Time for skinny dipping? Kallis is the place! Sauna, sunbathe on the deck and swim in the Öresund. Your tan will be amazing.

3. Moderna Museet

Culture is king! View modern art exhibitions and enjoy the shop filled with design. End it all with smörrebröd from Kafé Sisko.

4. Malmö Museum

Southern Sweden’s biggest museum! In this old castle, you’ll explore everything from nature and engineering to Malmö’s shipping history.

5. Turning Torso

One of Sweden’s tallest landmarks! Get tickets to enjoy the view, just don’t bring your friend that’s scared of heights…

6. Sydkustleden

Sydkustleden is one of Sweden’s loveliest cycling routes — and it goes straight through Malmö. In other words: no detour needed to stop by MJ’S for lunch, a drink or a well-deserved overnight stay.

Nordic fashion with brands such as Rodebjer, Marimekko and Filippa K. You’ll most def find your next favourite outfit here.

2. Nordiska Galleriet

Design furniture fan? Shop timeless and high quality design furniture, right in the city centre!

3. Arkivet

It’s big and newly opened in Malmö – Arkivet has a wide range of high end second hand. An option that even works for the picky ones!

4. AB småland

Shop everything from linnen and candle holders to sustainable fashion. AB Småland has it all (that includes fika).

5. FAB

FAB sells wonderful, colourful second hand. Flip through ruffles, lace and patterns – it’s THE place for statement pieces.

We assume you like liquid. That you’re just as interested in drinks and wine as we are. Boozy or virginy – we’ve got you covered.

1. MJ’S Lobby Bar

Our Lobby bar is a window to the wonders of our hotel. The best in service, guidance, cocktails, parties, fortune telling, hook-ups and break-ups…

2. L’Enoteca

Right around the corner you can enjoy gorgeous wine in their summer yard. It’s easy to spend a whole day (and night) at L’Enoteca.

3. Care/Of

Some puffs and scuffs and magical cocktails! If we’d have to give someone the cocktail crown (besides ourselves) it would be these guys.

4. Aster

Don’t miss out on Asters drinks. This restaurant has an industrial feel and is located right in the western harbour. Very sunset friendly.

5. Paloma

Enjoy spicy chilean cocktails in a gorg restaurant! It’s close to Möllan, and their bathroom is a must for some holy disco time…

Sights to see

The options are endless when it comes to sights around Malmö. We’ve listed some of our favourite spots, come along on an adventure!

1. Louisiana

Louisiana is a must if you’re able to make your way to Denmark! The perfect one day excursion with exhibits from world-renowned artists.

2. Botanical Garden Lund

Hop on the train or bus to the city of Lund, 10-15 minutes away. Get a coffee and visit the cathedral or botanical garden, filled with plants from all over the world.

3. Skanör

The tiny village of Skanör is a gem with white beaches and great places to eat. Look at some great photography at Falsterbo Photo Art Museum while you’re at it!

4. Copenhagen

Of course you’ll have to visit Copenhagen. Trains go all the time from Malmö Central station and the city is full of food, events and cozy streets.

Coffee to taste

So coffee… We’re kind of nerdy about coffee in this city. Malmö is filled with great coffee spots, we recommend you try them all!

1. MJ’S

We love coffee just as much as anyone. Wanna grab a cup and chill on patio? Go for it!

2. Dame Ginette

Oh la la! This french bistro will satisfy your cravings like never before…

3. Nostra

After a strolling at Södra Förstadsgatan, this is the place to land. Their fika is oh-so delish.

4. Lilla Kafferosteriet

Visit this charming spot that serves coffee with beans from their own roastery. They have it all – even defac!

5. Kaffebaren på Möllan

This is a true local spot with plenty of regulars. Go there and chit chat with the baristas or just enjoy the busy view of Möllan!

Where is MJ’S Hotel located?

MJ’S is right in the heart of Malmö, on Mäster Johansgatan 13, just 5 minutes from the Central Station and 10 minutes from the ferry terminal. It’s about 30 minutes from Malmö Airport and 30 minutes from Copenhagen Airport. For directions, head to our contact page.

What’s there to do at MJ’S during summer?

Summer at MJ’S is all about slowing down and soaking it in. Start with breakfast on the patio and continue with a workout in at our pink gym. Sunny outside? Order something refreshing and enjoy the Malmö street life on our lovely terrace. Rainy day? We’ve got you covered – grab a cocktail in the Lobby Bar, try the Avis de Saltu, our take on the classic Jungle Bird. Lunch and dinner happens in the lush courtyard at our restaurant, where the menu is built around what’s fresh from The Culinary Farm just outside Malmö. What kind of food does MJ’S serve?

Our kitchen is Mediterranean at heart, cooking with the seasons and a lot of local love. We work closely with The Culinary Farm outside Malmö, so the menu changes as the produce does. Are there summer packages to book?

What’s on at MJ’S in the evenings?

Most nights at MJ’S come with music. Our Lobby Bar hosts live DJs every Friday and Saturday, plus regular After Works on selected Fridays (5–9 pm). For cocktails with a bit more of a late-night feel, head to Lillies Cocktail Bar. Check what’s coming up on our goings on page.

What’s there to do near MJ’S?

The hotel sits right in central Malmö, so most of the city is walkable or a short bike ride away. You’ll find parks, shopping streets, the harbour and plenty of cafés all within minutes. Malmö is also a great base for day trips, Lund is 10–15 minutes away by train and Copenhagen is around 30 minutes. Half the fun is wandering and discovering what you like best.

Is MJ’S a good option for families?

Definitely. The rooms are spacious, some come with sofa beds, and cribs can be fixed upon request. Elevator makes travelling with lot of luggage easy and the restaurant offers a children’s menue, of course including pancakes.

Can I bring my dog to MJ’S?

Yes, of course. MJ’S is 100% dog friendly and we have dog rooms that can be added upon booking.

Is MJ’S a good base for cycling the Sydkustleden?

Yes, perfect actually. Sydkustleden – one of Sweden’s loveliest cycling routes. Runs right through Malmö, so no detour needed.
